The name “Utah” is derived from the name of the Ute tribe. It means “people of the mountains” in the Ute language.In 1847 Brigham Young led a group of people to the Salt Lake Valley to reestablish in Utah the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, also know as The Mormons. -

The States Of Modern: South Carolina
Just a note: There will be no States Of Modern Block posted next Thursday. I will be at a quilt retreat. Keep your eye here though, as I will try to post from a quilt shop or two!
This week we visit gorgeous South Carolina. Since Francisco Gordillo first landed on its shores in 1521, the land has been claimed by Spain, France and England.

States Of Modern: Maine
Maine, The Pine Tree State, is our northernmost state on the Atlantic seaboard. With the motto, “Dirigo” which means “I Lead” it isn’t surprisiong that the North Star is included on the Maine State seal and its flag.
