Spring Medallion Appliqué Border, Part 1

This week, I’m off to a quilting retreat so classes are not meeting. But this blog continues with our Spring Medallion Quilt, the Quilter’s Alphabet and a few other surprises!

In fact, the appliqué border is next up for the Spring Medallion Quilt (detail above). But it is still a bit of a mystery!
The design is coming along nicely and will be ready next week. In the meantime, I can give you the cutting dimensions of the background for the border. We are going to miter this border after doing the appliqué so we’ll need to take that into account. Don’t worry about the mitering, two foolproof methods will be presented so you are sure to be successful.

There four border pieces to be cut from the Background fabric. they each have calculated cut size of 40 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ BUT because we are going to be placing applique on these pieces we need them cut at least 41″ x 7″. I’m thinking 7″ width of fabric pieces will be just fine. So, as long as your background fabric is at least 42″, cut 4 each 7″ x WoF from your background, trim off the selvedges and press in half both ways to mark as a guide then check back here next Sunday to solve the Mystery of the Appliqué.
