Quilter’s Alphabet Block of the Week 12: Fabulous Fused Fans
Here is our 12th Block of the week in the 2012 Quilter’s Alphabet Series. How could a quilter think of the letter F and not think about the sweet Fan Block or of that wonderful quilter’s aid… Paper Backed Fusing!
And the curved shape of these Fan blades is not only cute, it is easy to stitch. So this block was born. It is a great addition to our collection, reflecting our quilting heritage while being made with the modern method of fusing.
I have been asked how these blocks are going to be set. Since I haven’t designed all the blocks, I am having trouble coming up with a mock up. My thought is to stitch together the letter block with its graphic representation and treat that as a single block. These blocks will be separated with sashing. Because 52 (or even 26) is not a nice number when setting a quilt, our rows will have a different number of blocks, with the spaces filled with sashing material. So the number of blocks (the 2-Part blocks) will be 4 in the first row, then 3 in the second, then three more rows of 4 blocks, a row of 3 and finishing off with a row of 4. In short, don’t even try to picture what I am thinking!

There are still a few design possibilities so I’ll be posting more on the layout in a few weeks, so stay tuned and…
Thanks For Stopping By.
