Recently, I was walking through our local Yorba Linda Redwoods (look it up!) and was struck by how majestic Trees are. These relatively young (about 45 years) redwoods looked a lot Christmas Trees!
So I started thinking… I’d like to make a bunch of hand crafted ornaments to decorate this year’s (and future) Christmas trees… And so the 2014 Ornament of the Month Club was born!
For our first Ornament (or Ornie!) I am offering this Selvage Edge Tree. It’s quick, will look great on your tree and offers you an opportunity to try your hand at the Selvage Method for yourself!
It’s super easy. You layer one Selvage edge at the edge of your base fabric. Overlap another Selvage just 1/4″ over the raw edge of the first, then top stitch. Continue on to cover the entire base fabric then use the templates given to cut the tree shapes. Then stitch the shapes, leaving an opening. Turn, stuff and stitch up opening. Add ribbon and buttons! Cute! (There are more instructions in the PDF below….)

Really cute idea.
I think that is a wonderful use of the selvage. Wouldn’t it be cute to add a selvage tree ornament to a Christmas gift? Perhaps make the tree out of the all the Selvages that were used in the Christmas gift.
I do a hand made ornament exchange each year with my family. I think the selvage tree ornament is perfect for next year. thank you for the pattern and idea. Theresa
This will be fun! Thank you.
