Mid Century Modern Quilt Block 19 MicroChips And Transistors
Note: There was an error on original pattern (SB Cut 36 ea. 1 1/2″ (NOT 2 1/2″) squares). Corrected PDF available below) I wish I could explain here in simple terms all about Transistors and MicroChips… What they are, how they work and how they differ. But I can’t… Because, despite some research, I just don’t understand.
Suffice it to say, or rather copy, from Wikipedia:
“A Transistor is a semiconductor device used to amplify and switch electronic signals and electrical power.”
And…
“A Microchip is a set of electronic circuits on one small plate (“chip”) of semiconductor material, normally silicon.”
So these things made everything from transistor radios to computers to mobile phones possible. They changed the world.
So they get a block in the Mid Century Modern quilt. A very stylized block because, let’s face it, transistors and Microchips are highly useful but quite ugly!
