It is that time of year. I love to hand make gifts but usually run out of time. This year though Thanksgiving was early and the Holiday Season is just a bit longer. Maybe there will be time to make a gift or two!
So I thought I would reprise a few more free gift patterns. I’ve already done two gift reviews (First and Second) along with posting new things (the Twiggy Doll…
the T-Shirt Scarf…
the Cuddle Scarf…
and the iTote Tablet Carrier).
But Wait! There’s More!
Don’t forget about our Monthly Minis… There is the Partridge in the Pear, SnowFlake Man and The Polka Dot Tree 8″ X 10″ mini quilts. These make wonderful gifts and there are 15 patterns in the pack!

Also we’ve been talking purses here lately along with tea towels so here is Cathys-zippered-bag-tea-towel. This is easy to make and really shows off a great tea towel.

And if that seems too hard, try Cathys-zippered-bag. It is easier (way easier!) than it looks and can be dressed up with appliqué or embroidery or even a tea towel! Great for make up bags, iCord holders and 1001 other uses.
Love bags and Jelly Rolls? Try the spider-web-bag. This is a super cute, not to hard, drawstring bag made from 2 1/2″ strips.
How about an earth-friendly gift? Our Grocery-Sack-2009 11/09 make up very quickly, use up large scraps and will give years of land fill free service.
Looking over these past patterns, I think the cutest thing I’ve ever done was the santa-scarf. It is like one big hug from the Jolly Guy himself! Give it a try. It’s fleece, it has pockets and it is adorable!
And if time is running short, we are sure the quilters on your list would love a selection of patterns from our Etsy site. You might even add a few to your own wish list!
Is that enough for now? Check back on Saturday for our tea towel extravaganza!
Thanks for checking in!

Lyn ~ I just love all the amazing ideas you always have on your blog; not to mention the great quilt projects. I’m sorry I don’t post very often to let you know I’m out here reading along. I really should.
Anyway, on the Santa Scarf I have a few questions that maybe you can answer.
First, I’m assuming because this is cut to the WoF that it will be very long and I wondered if you may have some idea on how long to cut for a 5-6 yr old and also for younger than 1 1/2 yr old children? I don’t have access to a copy machine so, while I am sure the santa face and pocket should be resized down and the width of the scarf as well, I may just leave those as they are to avoid going to a copy center. Sadly getting out isn’t something I do that often for health reasons, but I could shorten it easily without the need to go somewhere but just don’t know what a good length might be.
Also, on the pattern you state, “Cut away the center of the mustache for a softer look.” and I wondered if you have done this already on your pattern, or if you mean to cut more than what is shown and where exactly you are speaking of to ‘cut away’. Do you mean to cut the entire center making the moustache two pieces or something else?
Thank you very much for all the amazing things you post so often. They really are great to see and your instructions are always so well done without a huge amount of unnecessary wording. I love that your patterns/instructions are right to the point without that added wording that isn’t needed on a pattern.
Hi Vicki… Sorry I didn’t reply. I thought about your questions. Guess I thought I had responded! Anyway, I would shorten the scarf to 42″ or so for the youngster 5-6 years old. And maybe 36″ or so for the two year old… Though I’d be very careful giving a scarf to the toddler. Wouldn’t want it to get wrapped too tight! When I said to cut away on the mustache, I meant on the fusible web. Cutting away the center eliminates the stiffness. If you opt to make the smaller scarf, let me know and I’ll send you a smaller graphic. Marry Christmas!
Oh thank you very much. And that makes more sense about the fusible web being cut away now that you explain more.
I know that when I can get to the store for the fabric to make these that yes, I will be making them in a smaller size. I was going to try to some some made for my Grandchildren and their Momma. I would love the smaller graphic. Thank you very much for the offer.
Here you go!

Fun Facts
Wrap-A-Smile and Football
A football field measures 120 yards from goal post to goal post (or 360 feet)
And is 160 feet wide……..360 X 160 = 57,600 square feet
If the average size quilt is 40 X 48.…that works out to 3.3 feet X 4 feet or
13.3 square feet each
57,600 square feet divided by 13.3 = 4331 quilts cover ONE FOOTBALL FIELD
15,898 quilts divided by 4331 (on one field) = 3.67 FOOTBALL FIELDS
Doing the math, our total for 2010 of Wrap-A-Smile quilts will cover 3.67 football fields from goal post to goal post !
I think this is easy to visualize than a number of 15,898!!!
Lyn do you have specifications for size of quilts for the Doctors Without Borders babies? Or do you have a contact person who can give me these specifications? Thanks and Happy Hoidays.
