This week we are swapping Purple 8″ squares in our NOCCCD classes. These swaps are always fun and the fabric variety wonderful. And each swap brings a new quilt design (or two!) AND all the swap quilt patterns work with all the 2012 swaps!

WOW! This quilt was made by Sue in the Friday class from the green swap we did in March. The pattern is called Nuclei and this version is fabulous. Look at the border fabric and how it has many shades of green. It is the perfect border for a swap quilt with lots of green fabrics. The multiple values in the border compliment all the different values of the swap fabrics. And all that white lets each fabric shine as part of a wonderful whole.

Yellow can be a difficult color to work with. It can take over the whole design but this quilt incorporates lots of yellow and is going to really shine!

This is just FUN!
We had a roaring good time when we raced up to Ventura for our quilting retreat. I saw this antique quilt in a vignette at Roxanne’s Quilt Shop in Carpinteria and thought what a cute doll quilt it would make.

This is a variation of my City Blocks Quilt presented yesterday. It has been kicked up a notch with Sashing between all the patches, making it look completely different.

OOPS! I forgot to post the pattern earlier. I have added it now!
Here’s a fun little quilt (well, 48″ x 64″) that is quick and easy to make. My sample is made from terrific New York City fabric from CityQuilter.com. Check out that Bagel fabric!

The Postage Stamp quilt has a long tradition in quiltmaking going back well into the 1800s. Then, every scrap counted and nothing was wasted. That concept still applies for quilters today. So dig through your scrap bag and/or swap some with friends to create your own bit of history. (more…)

Here is the design for our class swap this week of 8″ light and dark green squares. Of course, if you live outside of the OC where our classes are held, Nuclei could be made of any collection of 50 light and dark (25 of each) squares or scraps larger than 8″.

Here are two beautiful Jelly Roll Race quilts, each with one added element. The top one has rectangles (2 1/2″ X 3 1/2″ to 6 1/2″) added to each strip of the Jelly Roll before starting and the one below has squares (2 1/2″). The Jelly Roll Race or Jelly Roll 1600 quilt is easy to make and is wonderful for charity or use-em-up quilts.

A pattern? For lasagna? YES! For it is a quilt made with “Noodles” of scraps! It is very easy and it will clear out your scrap bag (a bit!)
