Finishing Up The States Of Modern Quilt
Ok. You have a choice on how to set your States Of Modern blocks. There have been 48 blocks patterned. So you could set those in a 6 x 8 set for a quilt the finishes about 74 x 96 OR you can add this new American Flag block and have 49 blocks set 7 X 7 for an 85″ x 85″ quilt.
The American Flag block is the perfect compliment to all our State blocks and is easy to make as well! -
The States Of Modern: Wyoming
Due to its civil-rights history, Wyoming’s state nickname is “The Equality State”, and the official state motto is “Equal Rights”. On December 10, 1869, territorial Governor John Allen Campbell gave the right to vote to women, making Wyoming the first territory (and then U.S. state) to grant suffrage to women. In addition, Wyoming was also a pioneer in welcoming women into politics. Women first served on juries in Wyoming (Laramie in 1870); Wyoming had the first female court bailiff (Mary Atkinson, Laramie, in 1870); and the first female justice of the peace in the country (Esther Hobart Morris, South Pass City, in 1870). Also, in 1924, Wyoming became the first state to elect a female governor, Nellie Tayloe Ross, who took office in January 1925. Now that’s some HIStory!

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! And I hope you saw our West Virginia/Virginia block. I got a little behind, but at this time of year, I hope I can be forgiven. This week we “visit” the gorgeous state of Washington.

Vermont is known as the Green Mountain State and was the first addition to the Union after the original thirteen colonies. I love the Vermont motto… Freedom and Unity. That’s life in a nutshell!

The name “Utah” is derived from the name of the Ute tribe. It means “people of the mountains” in the Ute language.In 1847 Brigham Young led a group of people to the Salt Lake Valley to reestablish in Utah the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, also know as The Mormons. -

How appropriate that Texas is our state this week! The International Quilt Festival is going on now (Oct 29-Nov 1, 2015). It is the largest annual quilt show, sale and quiltmaking academy in the world. If you’ve never been, make plans to go!

Tennessee is known as the “Volunteer State,” a nickname earned during the War of 1812 because of the important role played by the many volunteer soldiers from Tennessee, especially during the Battle of New Orleans.
