I am packing my trunks in prep for my new Trunk Show at Friendship Square Quilt Guild in La Habra tomorrow evening. I’ll be speaking on “Quilts You Can Actually Make!” I hope to inspire and inform on the joys of making a quilt… and catch you up on all my latest doings! Join us if you can!
Living the retired life of a Grandmother is certainly busy! Especially around Christmastime! But I do have a something to share…
One wall of the exhibit “Modern Quilts: Redesigning Traditions.
Did you know the Ontario (California) Museum of History and Art has a fantastic exhibit of modern quilts. Called Modern Quilts: Redesigning Traditions, the exhibit has more than 60 quilts (including two of mine!).
This one is called Splash! It was published in Annie’s book called Trendy Triangles. This is the Roundabout and was in Annie’s More Jelly Roll Quilts.
Georgeanna Hawley, the guest curator of the exhibit, did a marvelous job gathering lots of examples of modern works.
With new interpretations of traditional blocks, fabulous colors, (lots of solid) fabrics, alternate grid forms and great explorations of negative space, the quilts represent much of what is going on with Modern Quilts.
It is my fervent hope that Modern Quilters and Traditional Quilters will come together to celebrate not only this quilt display but also the joys we find in this Craft as well. Georgeanna brought together a fabulous collection to exemplify that we are all Quilters whether we make modern quilts, traditional quilts or (gulp!) both!
The display runs thru January 22, 2017. The Museum is just a mile or so down the road from the Ontario Convention Center where Road To California Quilt Show will be held January 19-22, 2017. But don’t wait til Road to this exhibit! Make it part of your holiday plans!
What a treat to see so many Dear Jane Quilts all in one place! This exhibit at Houston IQF celebrates 20 years since the publication of Brenda Ps book that started a revolution. (more…)
Look what I found in Houston. The Festival Supply Store had a little display of books. And right in the middle was Annie’s Quilts With Unique Borders!
It was so inspiring to attend Kaffe Fassett‘s lecture here in Houston at IQF. His take on color is mind-blowing. He makes it seem so easy. And his new Book is just beautiful!
I am so proud to be working with Annie’s. They are a wonderful organization and they put out lots of books and magazines. The latest of which is called Quilted Christmas. I made a quilt for this publication and imagine my surprise and pleasure when my Gifts quilt was featured on the cover!
This Thursday evening, my subject will be Pre Cut Paradise. Come see some new quilts and lots of old friends at the Buena Park Senior Center. And Saturday I’ll be teaching my Solar Power Jelly Roll Lone Star quilt for Acacia.
I am off to teach my Quilt-A-Fish design this morning for Flying Geese Quilt Guild. I’m looking forward to spending a wonderful day with some creative quilters. And then tomorrow…
