Quilt Hunting, Part Five
Continuing the saga of Cambria quilt finds with more from A Primitive Perspective Antiques.
This Tobacco Leaf or Christmas Ivy quilt is charming. See the twisted triangles? Is it an error or intentional? And look at that border! WOW!
A Framed Basket block presents a great idea for Orphan Blocks. What a nice gift item… Just frame a block from a UFO! Check out that the stripes all go the same way and all are on the bias!
This little doll quilt reminds me of our Ventura 100 Doll Quilt. That was a fun project and here it is in fabrics circa 1890-1910. Recreate this quilt with all the reproduction fabrics available today. The pattern is available here. I wonder if there is a real name for this pattern.
This Four In Four Patch quilt is nearly as spectacular as the Four In Nine in yesterday’s post. Those cornerstones just tickle me! just more of the same 4-Patches. I’m starting to think that c. 1890 to 1910 era must have been a big quilting time. I see a lot of quilts from that era. I wonder why? Is it the distinctive fabrics? Is it that, besides the 30’s, it is a recent “Antique” time and so there are still quilts surviving from that time? Or was it that a lot of quilts were made? Or were the fabrics sturdier? Hmm…
That Red/Blue/Black/Shirting combo is so cozy-looking with that nearly chambray sashing.
Next is just a single block. Love the Patriotic with the taupe-y cornerstones! I don’t know the name of this block so let’s call it Rockets Red Glare. Leave a comment below and let me know if you would like me to post a pattern for this block. Looks like it would be fun to make.
OMG! This President’s Wreath Summer Spread is just gorgeous! This is unquilted, unlayered, but completely bound. Here it is folded in half but see those thistle blocks in the corners? What a great variation for your next quilt to use different blocks in the corners. Also note that one block that has fewer leaves than the others. Did the quilt maker just get tired of appliqué? Or did she need to get this on a bed for a special visitor? Or maybe this block was just overlooked. Also note the differences in the Thistle Block. One has leaves and the other stars. wonderful! A beautiful piece!
Many thanks to A Primitive Perspective Antiques in Cambria for allowing these pics to be taken. Check out their Facebook page for even more wonderful quilts.
