Sunset And Vine Mystery Quilt Clue Four

Special Effects!

Are you ready to make some Special Effects? Hollywood uses special effects to enhance the feel of motion pictures.  We quilters have found some wonderful ways to add special effects to our projects as well!

We are going to add to, and change the orientation of, a block we have previously made…

For Clue Four, we are altering the Rail Fence blocks we made in Clue One in a very simple way… We will set them into a Square In A Square block!

The Pattern PDF Follows.  Our next Clue, Clue Five, will be posted next Tuesday, July 31.

Meanwhile, I have just posted the Supply List for a new quilt… The Nostalgic 9 In 9 Pieced quilt.  You may know we used the 9 In 9 Block for the N Representative Block of our Quilter’s Alphabet Quilt.  I heard so much about the pretty quilt I featured in that post,  I knew I had to pattern it for you.  So check it out!  And our 2012 Fall Quilts will be starting soon…The glorious and historic Burgoyne Surrounded (Supply List now available) and the beautiful Iris Quilt Block pattern is also up. Keep your eye on LynBrown.com for more great quilt patterns. As always, there is also a lot to see at our Etsy Shop. There must be something for everyone in that mix!

You may have noticed there is lots going on here at LynBrown.com. Our doll quilts series (Our latest is Hummingbird!) will continue through the year. There are lots of other great free quilt patterns here on the site… Like our swap/scrap quilt patterns and our Quilter’s Alphabet quilt block of the week which will both be continuing all summer long.

Here is the PDF…

Be sure your Clue One Rail Fence Blocks measure 3 1/2″ X 3 1/2″ before starting this clue!

Sunset and Vine Mystery Clue 4

And if you are just joining us for this Mystery, here is the Supply List… And Sunset and Vine Mystery Clue One And Clue Two. There will be Nine Clues with one given each Tuesday.

Thanks for dropping in!

Wow, that’s weird. The Clue One that I have saved says 3-3/8 x 3-1/2. Maybe a change was made after I saved it? No matter. I haven’t actually started sewing yet so there’s no problem. Thanks for pointing this out. I just re-saved Clue One so I’ll be working with the correct calculations! Whew!

I just looked clue one and it does say the finished rail fences should be 3.5 x 3.5. But isn’t an eighth of an inch the fudge factor? If you do a scant seam on your 3 3/8 side it should work.

Uh oh. Didn’t Clue One say to cut your rail fence strips to 3-3/8 x 3-1/2?? This Clue Four says to be sure your rail fence strips measure 3-1/2 x 3-1/2. I foresee a problem…
