Note: Patterns for all the blocks and borders are given at the end of this post… But download them all soon because they will be removed from the site at the end of the month. The pattern (titled Antique Blooms) will then be available on my Etsy site.
After a three week holiday break, my classes start up again this week (of January 5, 2009). Thankfully, I have the Antique Red and Green quilt ready to teach! It was a process of give and take, but I’m so pleased with the results! We are going to make this quilt with the Borders going right on the Blocks, a technique I have cleverly coined “Borders on Blocks! I wasn’t sure we could use this method for applique but it worked out very well. Makes it easy to stitch down your appliques without guess work of where they fit vis a vis the blocks. The blocks have not yet been stitched together in the picture above!
Now that you really know where we are headed with this quilt, I hope you’ll join us on the journey down the road into the history of quiltmaking with this modern reproduction of the type of quilts being made 150 years ago.
Oops, just noticed I had an extra flower pinned to the quilt when I took these shots. Sorry! But you get more than the gist, don’t you? The blocks are already packed up to go to class. I’ll post another picture when I put up the block 1 instructions on Saturday the 10th. Til then, here’s the supply list….
